Starting a Judo Club

Individuals or organizations interested in starting a judo club should consult the following Judo Canada resources.

  • Opening a Dojo
  • Practicing Judo Safely Recommended Guidelines

Also check NLJA policies on Coaching Certification requirements and Police Checks for Coaches and Volunteers which can be found here

A key requirement for registration as an NLJA member club is that there has to be a Head Coach with a minimum of Shodan rank in Judo, certified as a minimum of NCCP Judo Coaching at the Dojo Assistant Level (to be changed to Dojo Instructor in the next few years), and currently registered with the NLJA and Judo Canada.

If you are interested in starting a judo club in Newfoundland & Labrador or have any questions about the process contact the NLJA  President
